After losing a lot of time (but enjoying ourselves greatly) in Knowsley Safari Park, we now needed to bag some more tops very quickly if we were to maintain our record attempt. Sefton was ideal for this purpose – not only was it the lowest county top we’d yet done (a mere 36 metres above sea level) but we could park in a pub car park virtually at the summit. From the pub car park a brief exploration of the immediate environs disclosed
that the highest point was opposite a bus shelter a few hundred metres
north of The Pear Tree pub. I think the paucity of superlatives here serves
to convey our general opinion of this top. Our third top of the day done,
we went into a nearby petrol station to see if we could find ourselves
some lunch for later (having not seen one single supermarket in the entire
trip). No such luck – the few rolls and sandwiches they had looked
like they’d been there for several weeks and we decided to give
them a miss in the interests of personal safety.
